
According to a recent study, people who ate hot soup as an appetizer before a meal averaged consuming 135 calories less during their meal. By slowly consuming a bowl of hot soup you allow your body a chance to feel satiated and may eat less when it comes to the higher calorie portion of the meal. Remember, it takes 10-15 minutes for your brain to receive and register the sensation of fullness from the stomach. Aside from the soup trick you can also try:
- Chewing!
- Cutting your portion into smaller pieces
- Drinking 8-12 oz. of water 10 minutes before a meal
- Eating a low calorie salad 10-15 minutes before your main entree
